Polio drive in high-risk UCs to start from 27th

Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Friday said that a four-day anti-polio drive will commence from 27th in 11 high-risk union councils (UCs) of Karachi.

He expressed these views while chairing a high-level meeting to review the anti-polio campaign expected to begin from January 27, 2015. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Karachi-I Muhammad Aslam Khoso, Deputy Commissioner Malir Qazi Jan Muhammad, Aga Parwaiz, Asif Jan Siddiqui, Syed Shujat Hussain, Dr Salma Kausar and others.

Shoaib Siddiqui said around 216,807 children under five years of age will be administrated polio vaccination in four-day drive. He said 709 mobile teams, 150 area in-charges, 27 union council medical officers, 883 polio workers and supervisors will perform their duties in upcoming drive.

He said 1,375 police personnel and 173 ranger men will be deployed in high-risk UCs of city for security of polio teams. He said polio campaign will be done in high-risk areas like Chakra Goth, Rehri Goth, Muzzafrabad Colony, Muslimabad, Firdous Colony number-2, Gujro-4 (Zone A), Gujro-4(Zone B), Gujro-4(Zone C), Gujro-4(Zone D), Gujro-4(Zone E), Songal-5, Manghopir-8, Chishti Nagar-7, Islamia Colony-9 and Ittehad Colony-2.

The commissioner said elimination of polio was possible only if the task given by government, especially chief minister to special committee, will be achieved 100 percent during the drive.
