NAB Rawalpindi outperformed itself in 2014

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry visited the NAB Rawalpindi Bureau for the annual inspection of the regional bureau in Rawalpindi.

NAB Chairman’s Inspection & Monitoring Team (CI&MT) was in charge of conducting the annual inspection for the year 2014. The inspection was carried out from January 21 to January 23, 2015 in order to review and evaluate the performance of the Rawalpindi bureau based on a quantified grading system.

The Senior Member (CI&MT) gave a briefing to Chaudhry on the inspection that have been completed, and highlighted the strengths and weakness of the Rawalpindi bureau. He said that on the directions of the chairman a quantified grading system has been devised for the first time in NAB’s history; under this grading system, the performance of NAB Regional Bureaus is being evaluated at a given criteria.

The chairperson, in his opening remarks, said that NAB is Pakistan’s apex anti-corruption organization, which is assigned the responsibility of eliminating corruption through a holistic approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement. He said that this is his third inspection visit to the Rawalpindi bureau after inspecting the Lahore and Karachi bureaus. The Rawalpindi bureau is particularly important, as NAB Rawalpindi was the flagship bureau. It played a prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB.

During the briefing, it was informed that NAB Rawalpindi/Islamabad received 8260 complaints during the year and all of them were disposed off/completed. The current number of complaints was highest ever in the history of NAB Rawalpindi. Complaint verification Cell (CVC), NAB Rawalpindi completed 196 Complaints Verification during 2014. In 2014, NAB Rawalpindi authorized 160 inquiries, and completed 97 out of these cases. It was also informed that during the same period, NAB Rawalpindi authorized 33 investigations and 28 investigations were completed. The CI&MT team further informed that a total numbers of 22 References were filed by the NAB Rawalpindi bureau in accountability courts during 2014. In 2014, NAB Rawalpindi has recovered Rs 1222.47 Million rupees from corrupt persons and arrested 54 accused  which is highest ever number for NAB Rawalpindi in any year.
