Gas pipeline explosion suspends gas supply to Uch power plant

Explosion suspends gas supply to several areas of Balochistan, brings electricity generation down by 800MW

An 18-inch gas pipeline was destroyed after a bomb explosion in Dera Murad Jamali early on Friday morning suspending gas supply to various areas of Balochistan province.

The explosion resulted in the suspension of gas to two units of Uch Power Plant which brought down the generation of electricity by 800 Megawatts.

According to police, more than a foot of the gas pipeline was affected due to the explosion. Police have cordoned the area and started investigation.

Repair teams of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) reached the spot and started repair work to restore the much-needed gas supply.

Meanwhile, the power shortfall reached 4,500 MW on Friday as the generation was only 7,500 MW against the demand of 12,000 MW, according to National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC).

RAILWAY TRACK BLOWN UP NEAR QUETTA:

Separately, unidentified men blew up a railway track with explosive material, some 13 miles from Quetta on Friday.

According to details, a portion of the track was blown up but there was no loss of life.

Police said that the explosive material installed at the railways track blew up when Jaffar Express was passing through the area. The blast damaged the oil tank of the train and about 3,000 liters of diesel was lost due to the leakage.

Talking to media, Railways divisional superintendent who visited the affected site said about one foot of the track was damaged, adding that rapid work was immediately launched to restore the traffic. He said terrorists use different tactics to disrupt the movement of trains. However, a strategy would be devised to counter the activities of anti state elements, he added.
