Widespread rain across country, snowfall in mountainous areas, mercury plummets

The country saw widespread rain and snowfall on Wednesday, bringing temperatures down to freezing point in some areas.

According to the Meteorological Department (Pak-Met), a western disturbance has affected the upper and central parts of the country, and the phenomenon is likely to persist during the next 24-36 hours.

Rainfall was experienced in Islamabad, Upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sahiwal divisions), Upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan divisions) and Kashmir, while there were scattered showers in North Balochistan (Quetta, Zhob, Kalat divisions), Bannu, D.I.Khan, Multan, D.G.Khan, Bahawalpur divisions and Gilgit -Baltistan.

There was some rainfall at isolated places including Sukkur, Larkana, Sibbi and Naserabad divisions. There was widespread rain in North Balochistan as well.

The Met office said that widespread rainfall (with snowfall over the hills) is expected in Islamabad and upper Punjab (including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Lahore, Upper KP at Malakand, Hazara divisions and Kashmir). There will also be scattered showers in places such as Peshawar, Kohat, Sargodha, Sahiwal divisions and Gilgit–Baltistan, and at isolated places in Bahawalpur, Faisalabad and Mardan divisions, during the next 24 hours.
