Govt diversifying energy mix: Dar

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday said the government was promoting power generation from LNG and hydel and the country was diversifying its energy mix and moving from furnace oil and diesel to LNG and hydropower generation to provide low cost electricity to consumers.

He said this while talking to delegations of China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Company and International Finance Corporation.

The chairman of Chinese investment company briefed the minister about solar, wind, wind-solar hybrid and hydropower projects of 3,000 MW being undertaken in Pakistan with an investment of six billion dollars. He said his company had already taken up investment in projects on Jhelum River and now desires to work on projects upstream on river Indus and has a plan of generating up to additional 4,000 megawatt in the long run.
