  • Father of killed student says former minister Shaukat Yousafzai misbehaved with him while KP CM Khattak ‘manhandled’ him for complaining against govt’s apathy to Imran Khan
  • Yousafzai apologises but says he didn’t say anything that could have hurt the grieving parents

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Tuesday observed the Chehlum of those martyred during the attack on Army Public School at a function at the Chief Minister’s House, however some parents complained of misbehaviour and manhandling by government ministers at the ceremony in which Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan was also present besides parents and relatives of those killed in the Dec 16 attack by Taliban terrorists.

Muhammad Nawaz, who lost his son Haris Nawaz, told reporters outside the venue that former provincial minister Shaukat Yousafzai misbehaved with him while Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak manhandled him when he tried to talk to them after the memorial service.

“My son Haris died in the attack while my other son was injured and needs treatment but the provincial government, despite announcing that they would send him abroad, has done nothing so far. The CM got annoyed when I complained against the provincial government to Imran Khan,” he said.

Imran Khan had earlier announced that the injured children would receive treatment abroad if they could not be treated at Pakistani hospitals.

Mohammad Idress, father of Mohammad Anas, also shared his grievances.

“My son has gone through various surgeries as his right arm is totally damaged because of the bullets,” he said. “The KP government ministers humiliated us. The government has announced Rs 200,000 for the treatment of the injured, is this amount enough to treat my son?” he asked, adding that like him, other parents would not receive this amount without feeling humiliated.

On the other hand, Yousafzai denied the allegations, saying that he had apologised to Nawaz but insisted that he had not said anything that could have hurt the grieving man.

Minister for Information Mushtaq Ghani told reporters that they apologise if they have hurt anyone because of any misunderstanding.

Meanwhile, the KP government announced that it would be raising the amount of compensation for the families of those martyred from Rs 500,000 to Rs 2 million, while the injured would be treated abroad if health experts recommend it.
