No security for senator

A report on security was provided by the Interior Ministry to Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, President Mamnoon Hussain, federal ministers, judges of Supreme Court and high courts, members of parliament and senators and senior functionaries has been presented in Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The IHC had called for complete details from the Interior Ministry about the security extended to federal ministers and others in Senator Mir Israrullah Zehri case.

Justice Athar Minallah of IHC took up for hearing the case on Monday.

Standing counsel Hanif Ibrahim Kazmi appeared on behalf of the federation in the court and presented the report on the security provided by Interior Ministry to PM, president, federal ministers, judges of Supreme Court and high courts and senior functionaries of government.

The counsel for federation told the court that it is not possible to provide security to every MNA and senator, adding that the law also does not allow for it.

The petitioner belongs to Balochistan, therefore it is the responsibility of Balochistan government to extend security to him, said the counsel.

He further told the court that security is being provided to the PM, president, judges of Supreme Court and high courts, federal ministers, senate chairman and others. He ruled out any possibility of providing security squad to the petitioner.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case indefinitely.
