Imran Khan summoned by court over ex-CJ’s defamation lawsuit

ISLAMABAD-

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was summoned by a  district and session court in Islamabad over a  defamation notice filed against him by former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary.

Justice Nazir Ahmed Gajana has sought Khan’s reply and directed him to appear before the bench on January 29.

According to sources, a legal team, comprising of advocate Taufiq Asif and advocate Ahsan Uddin, filed the lawsuit worth Rs20 billion.

Khan had accused the former chief justice of his involvement in alleged rigging in May 2013 general elections.

Chaudhary had sent a legal notice to Imran over ‘defamatory remarks’ against him after which a counsel of PTI chief issued a clarification.

The ex-CJ had withdrawn the notice after receiving the clarification.  However, Khan said he stood by his statement while his aides added that the counsel had drafted the clarification without consulting the PTI chief.
