The year 2014 witnessed 11.04 million new mobile phone subscribers as compared to 8.8 million during the corresponding period last year, showing a reasonable growth.
The trend of net additions during the last four years of all cellular mobile companies in the country showed that Zong has been the fastest growing operator and the company managed to add highest number of additions (6,152,729) during 2014 as well.
Telenor was able to add the next highest number of subscribers (3,058,687) after Zong during the period mentioned while Mobilink, the market leader in terms of total subscribers, has not been able to keep up with Telenor or Zong in previous year as only 1,646,475 subscribers joined its network during 2014.
Latest stats issued by regulator Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) cellular mobile subscribers (number of active SIMs) in the country reached 139.9 million at end of June 2014 as compared to 128.25 million by June 2013, depicting growth of 9.1 per cent as compared to 6.7 per cent during the corresponding period last year.
The growth in this segment is a healthy sign for the operators as more subscribers mean more revenue generating opportunities. Similarly, existing customers also reap more benefits from the operators in shape of new offers, packages and reduced tariffs.
