7,040 stranded Pakistanis evacuated from Libya

The government has facilitated evacuation of 7,040 stranded Pakistanis from Libya through chartered and commercial flights.

Out of 7,040 Pakistanis, 3310 were evacuated through 13 special flights and the remaining Pakistanis were facilitated through neighbouring countries/commercial airlines.

As per details, federal government sanctioned Rs 400 million to carry out evacuation/repatriation of stranded Pakistanis from Libya while Ministry of Foreign Affairs established Crisis Management Cell (CMC) in Foreign Office to provide assistance to the relatives of stranded Pakistanis in Libya round the clock. The authorities also established four relief camps, two in Tripoli and one each in Benghazi and Sebha for provision of food, shelter and medical assistance to Pakistanis seeking repatriation.

At one time, around 3,300 stranded Pakistanis were staying at these Relief Camps. The Embassy of Pakistan in Tripoli, Libya remained open on weekends during the evacuation period and it also established a helpline in the Embassy for 24 hours assistance. During last six months, 280 prisoners were also released from various detention centres of Libya.
