NA adopts resolution against blasphemous Charlie Hebdo cartoons

The parliament on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution against the blasphemous caricatures published in satirical French weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique tabled the resolution and read it out in the National Assembly. The treasury and opposition unanimously supported the resolution.

The resolution called on the international community, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the European Union (EU) to take action against the publication of such material.

“These cartoons are a conspiracy to create a misunderstanding among civilizations,” the resolution reads.

The House maintained that such moves by Charlie Hebdo are against the freedom of expression, and said “ridiculous religious material is condemnable”.

Later all parliamentarians of Senate and National Assembly marched on the road in protest against blasphemous cartoon repeatedly published in the French weekly satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
