In a bid to choke the financial sources of banned outfits and madrassas, the government asked Saudi Arabia for a fresh clampdown on organizations and individuals that are financing sectarian and banned organizations operating in Pakistan.

In this regard, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar held a meeting with acting Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Jassem Al-khaledi on Wednesday.

On the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Interior Ministry approached the Saudi embassy in Islamabad for an urgent meeting to discuss matters related to the funding of madrassas/mosques by Saudi philanthropists.

The minister, during his meeting with the Saudi diplomat, also briefed him about the behaviour of the proscribed organisations, as has been ascertained by the National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) and National Counterterrorism Authority (NACTA).

A group of experts has already recommended to the National Action Plan Committee that Tehran, Riyadh, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), should be asked to stop funding religious groups that are banned in Pakistan.

  1. Saudi Arab royals have forever been funding terrorists inside Pakistan, funding terror-ideology masajid in Pakistan for decades and so are the Irani leaders arming Shiite militants in Pakistan. Apart from the debate of sects, we must accept this reality and sane officers, if there are any, at the high-level of state administration should know that to rescue Pakistan from becoming another Syria, ties with the leaders of the said Islamic countries (Saudi Arab and Iran) be immediately revisited. I am glad that Pakistan Today and The Nation ran this article, there are few sane, fearless voices left in the media too. Wake up, government officials, wake up.
