There is a need to change Pakistan’s narrative on terrorism, Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami said on Tuesday.
Speaking in Channel 24’s DNA talk show, Mr Nizami said although much has changed after Gen Raheel Sharif’s assumption of the army chief’s office, yet there’s a lot more to be done to rid the country of terrorism.
“We have to change the narrative which has evolved since the era of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto,” said Mr Nizami, adding that we cannot pin the blame of terrorism on foreigners as most of the convicted terrorists who have been executed so far were Pakistanis.
“The people of France came out in large numbers after the Charlie Hebdo killings to give a strong message to terrorists while we could not even muster a crowd of some thousands to show that we are on the same page against the scourge which has claimed thousands of lives in Pakistan,” he said.
Regarding Pakistan-India ties, Mr Nizami said that India, especially under the leadership of Narendra Modi, would not allow US to play a role in furthering Pak-India ties by resolving the Kashmir issue.
An excellent suggestion…now who can write that narrative?
