PTI chief baffled by protest at APS Peshawar

PESHAWAR-

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan on Wednesday expressed his bewilderment at the protest upon his arrival at Peshawar’s Army Public School, private media reported.

Addressing a press conference, Khan said “I don’t understand what the point of the protests was… I am just a chief of a party and Pervaiz Khattak is the chief minister of the province, but the school is run by the army.”

“I am upset that there were parents outside who were protesting,” the PTI chief further said.

He said that he visited the place to boast the morale of the students but failed to understand the reason behind the protest.

“If I have come here to increase the morale of the parents then what kind of a protest can be there against us?” Imran questioned.

However, he also said that he fully understands the grief and pain that parents of  martyred children of the Army Public School are going through.

“I fully understand their grief…they have lost their children,” he further said “I respect their protest.”

Admiring the courage of the students who survived deadly attack, he said “I am thankful for such a great welcome, the morale of the students was high.”

Taking about the security measures taken by the provincial government, PTI chairman said that it was not possible to provide full-proof security to over 65,000 schools in the province, however, his party’s government in KPK would not allow disruption of educational activities in the province.

Earlier today, Khan made a visit to the tragedy-struck school with his new wife Reham Khan. Bereaved families protested in front of the school, rejecting political point-scoring over the tragedy while a small group attempted to block the way of the PTI chief’s convoy.

Later on, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani called it a politically-motivated protest.

“Awami National Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz have formed Shuhda Forum and the protesters outside Army Public School were members of the forum. The protest had nothing to do with the victims’ families,” he said.
