PM reviews progress on NAP implementation

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday presided over a meeting to review the progress on implementation of the National Action Plan against terrorism.

Senior government officials including Federal Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, secretary ministry of interior, attorney general besides others attended the meeting.

Nisar briefed the prime minister about the legislative and administrative measures as well as the progress on sub-committees so far made on the implementation of the plan.

During the meeting, Sharif said that there was no room for terrorists in the country and the government was talking all necessary steps for their elimination.

“We have the determination not to be at ease till the elimination of last terrorist from our country,” the prime minister said.

During the meeting, the premier was informed that since December 23, 2014 in Punjab and Islamabad Capital Territory, 164 cases have been registered for use of hate speech and material. Furthermore, 1,994 cases have been registered on the misuse of loudspeaker and 1,088 persons have been arrested.

Meanwhile,the  premier  also approved that the 21st Constitutional Amendment as well as amendment in the Army Act also be opted by Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK Councils to facilitate formation of military courts in those areas.

The National Action Plan was formulated following  the deadly Peshawar school attack on Dec. 16.

The plan includes host of measures including setting up of military courts to deal with the menace of terrorism.
