- 1,600 out of 2,700 applicants selected for security and vigilance committees
The Islamabad Police have finalised names of 16,00 citizens who would be given representation in security and vigilance committees being established to ensure safety to people and curb criminal activities through public cooperation, said Islamabad Inspector General of Police Tahir Alam Khan while addressing a briefing session to the Security and Vigilance Committee members at Police Lines Headquarters Islamabad.
AIG (Operations) Dr Sultan Azam Temuri, Islamabad SSP Mir Vais Niaz, all zonal SPs, SDPOs, SHOs, beat officers, members of committees and media personnel were also present on the occasion.
Addressing on the occasion, the IGP said such committees are very crucial for maintaining peace and notables of the society are being made members of these bodies who would be issued special cards. He said that 2,700 applications have been received from the city in which 1,600 names are being finalised who will be issued police cards after complete verification.
He said that 99 beat officers have been appointed for keeping liaison with the members. The committee members will be allotted streets and mohallas in their areas who will gather information about suspicious elements. They would deliver information through SMS to their beat officer, the IGP added.
He said it is very encouraging that thousands of people especially youth have applied for representation in these committees and they are very much volunteers to make their participation in effective policing and maintain peace in the city. Security and Vigilance Committee members also assured for their complete coordination with police.
The IGP said those disturbing peace of the city will not be spared and police along with community will make every possible effort for making the city more secure.
AIG Operations Sultan Azam Temuri during his address said that security audit of 422 school and colleges have been completed. He said 34 DSPs and Inspector level officers have been appointed who will give lecture to students and staff during assembly session. He said that security alert system have been provided to all institutions.
