Weekly bazaars need more variety: CDA

Member Administration and Estate CDA Amer Ali Ahmed has directed staff from the weekly bazaars to ensure the provision of different kinds of vegetables, fruits and other edible items of daily use. The items are to be provided to customers at affordable rates. He directed the director of security and the in-charge of the weekly bazaars to ensure hygienic conditions within the vicinity. They were further told to pay surprise visits to the weekly bazaars and to keep a vigilant eye on the prescribed prices of food items. He further directed them to take effective security measures and ensure the deployment of security guards at the entry gate to avoid any untoward incident.

Ahmed said this while chairing a meeting at the CDA Headquarter, where he was reviewing the progress of CDA’s weekly bazaars. The meeting was attended by the director of security and in-charge of CDA weekly bazaars, and other relevant officers.

Ahmed was told that the bazaar administration is working to ensure the availability of fresh and hygienic fruits and vegetables in the weekly bazaars, at cheaper rates. As a result, fruits and vegetables are being sold at rates lower than rates at other markets in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

In terms of a comparative analysis of the rates, he was informed that that potato, onion, tomato, garlic, peas, carrot, bell pepper, bitter gourd, apple and banana are being sold at Rs. 44, 34, 70, 125, 120, 32, 120, 160, 88,and 80 per kg, for every dozen, respectively, in different markets of Islamabad while these commodities were sold at Rs. 27, 25, 56, 120, 70, 30, 70, 80, 80 and 60 per kg for a dozen, respectively, in the CDA weekly bazaars in Islamabad last week.
