Members of the National Assembly (NA) Monday underlined the importance of fully enforcing the National Action Plan (NAP) to counter terrorism in the country.
Speaking on a motion moved by Parliamentary Affairs State Minister Sheikh Aftab, MNA Shazia Marri said that peace is a key factor for the country’s prosperity and development, adding that the “barbaric Peshawar incident has brought the national leadership and the nation on the same page against militancy”.
“Social sector institutions like health are being targeted by terrorists,” she said and urged the government to implement the twenty points of NAP in order to achieve peace in the country.
Taking part in the debate, MNA Mahmood Khan Achakzai said that a strong democratic system is the only solution to resolve the longstanding issue of terrorism. The government should also take steps to ensure justice to the people of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Balochistan, he said.
He said the policies of the former government are responsible for the unrest in Pakistan, adding that the incumbent government should take steps to compensate the victim families of Peshawar attack.
Khusru Bakhtiar appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to bring all stakeholders on the same page to evolve a strategy against terrorism.
“The government should also take steps to strengthen the state’s intelligence institutions and improve their performance against militancy,” said Bakhtiar.
Taking part in debate, Mahboob Alam paid tribute to schoolchildren and teachers martyred in the Peshawar incident, saying the whole nation is expressing solidarity with them.
He said that the government should take steps to plug the funds of banned terror outfits. He suggested that the government introduce local body and town committees to tackle the issue of terrorism.
