Clerics won’t have 21st Amendment opposed

People who are in opposition to the 21st amendment want to destroy national unity, along with the consensus that was reached against terrorists and the Taliban, said Ulema, religious scholars from various schools of thought.

Talking to APP, they expressed their support for speedy executions of terrorists that had committed heinous acts against Pakistanis. They believed that the death penalty would prevent terror incidents in the future. Syed Abdul Kabeer Azad said that terrorists have no link with Islam and they are giving a bad name to religion.

Allama Raghib Naeemi of Jamia Naeemia said Islam teaches goodwill. Killing even one person is tantamount to killing all of humankind.

Chairperson Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi told APP that he fully supported the 21st amendment, and despite reservations, he support special courts so that speedy trial of terrorists could become a reality.

Such courts are essential for eliminating terrorism. He urged people to stand-up against the menace of terrorism and reject barbarism committed in the name of religion. He criticized individuals opposing the establishment of military courts.

Secretary General PUC Maulana Zahid Qasmi said that those opposing the 21st amendment are doing so for political gains.

Head of Sunni Tehrik Sarvat Ejaz Qadri said the country was in a state of war. The nation has no option other than the military courts to combat terrorism.
