Premier Sugar Mills Mardan arranged a gathering to create awareness among the local farmers to increase their sugarcane production at the Mardan Press Club the other day.
A large number of sugarcane growers and their representatives attended the gathering.
Premier Sugar Mills Mardan Chief Operating Officer Nusrat Ali Khan informed on the occasion that the mills will provide interest-free loans to the sugarcane growers for agricultural machinery, seeds and pesticides. He said special points have also been set up in Swabi to provide guidance to the farmers in this regard.
“Our farmers will have to increase per acre production to cope with increasing inflation. Our average production ranges between 300 to 400 maunds per acre which is quite insufficient. The main reason behind this problem is simultaneous sowing of wheat on 80 percent land of this area. September and February are two best available times for sowing sugarcane,” he said.
