LHC halts execution of three death row convicts

The Rawalpindi bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday accepted hearing a petition against the death sentence of three death row convicts, halting their executions, private media reported.

Khalid Mehmood, Nawazish Ali and Mushtaq Ahmed were convicted by a military court in an attack on former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf in Rawalpindi in 2003. They were to be hanged today.

The convicts’ counsel petitioned in the court that none of the three defendants were provided copies of hearing of the case in the military court and they were unable to appeala gainst the death sentence handed down to them.

Justice Amin Qazi halted their execution and accepted to hear their appeals on January 12.

The attorney general of Pakistan has also been summoned for the hearing.

  1. The court system in Pakistan fails to bring justice to killers again…the LHC is controlled by the radicals and terrorist supporters…is there any question why Pakistan needs military courts?
