KARACHI-
A commander of Karachi wing of Al Qaeda’s South Asia chapter was killed along with three militant suspects, and two gang-war members in encounters with the police and Crime Investigation Department (CID) in parts of Karachi early Friday, private media reported.
According to details, CID acted on an intelligence tip-off and raided a terrorist den in the city’s Qayyumabad area where the encounter took place.
Four militants, including the Al Qaeda Karachi wing commander, were killed in the crossfire. Suicide vests and other arms and ammunition was also recovered from the militants.
The militants were identified as Sajid alias Karjal, Muhammed Hashim, Yaseen alias Arafat and Shameem.
Police sources added that the militants were planning an attack on a vehicle of an intelligence agency.
In Lyari’s Baghdadi area, a police encounter led to the killing of two members of the gang war wanted for at least 10 murders. Five policemen were also injured.
A cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered in the raid.
