Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday inaugurated Asia’s largest water filtration plant. It will provide potable water to at least 80 villages.
According to details, Zardari’s daughter Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari accompanied him to the inaugural ceremony.
Zardari inaugurated the Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration plant and drank the purified water following his daughter. Reportedly, more plants are to be established in Tharparkar for the supply of potable water to those affected by drought.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Rubina Qaim Khani, Murad Ali Shah, and others were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, Zardari said the plant will provide 8 million litres of drinking water per day in addition to producing one MW of electricity benefitting the people of Mithi city besides about one hundred villages.
He said the government was committed to providing basic necessities of life to the people of far flung areas and asked the provincial government to complete the ongoing development projects within the stipulated time frame.
The former president also directed the provincial government to install more tube wells and promote livestock business by developing institutional mechanisms including special loans and banking facilities for the purpose.
