Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Karachi President Abdul Qadir Patel and General Secretary Najmi Alam have held the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) and Karachi Electric (KE) responsible for the acute water crisis the city is presently facing.

The KW&SB management should take measures for uninterrupted water supply to the people of the city as the water utility had simply been informing the people of the city of acute water shortage due to power failure at the pumping stations which ranged from 200 million gallons to 400 million gallons.

On the other hand, the KE management had also been avoiding steps for the uninterrupted power supply at the pumping stations. The PPP Karachi Division office-bearers asked the KE and the water utility to stop punishing the people of the city over their internal financial issues as they were directly responsible for the acute water crisis in the city.

They asked the water utility managing director to take steps for the improvements in utility’s financial matters and should utilise the revenue being generated through water bills from the consumers for the procurement of gas-based pumps so that the water supply should remain uninterrupted during hours of load shedding by the KE.

They also asked the KE to spend money on bringing improvements in power distribution system and ensure complete absence of load shedding on water pumping installations.

The water shortage in the city was not only penalizing the people of the city but was also causing a huge curtailment in trade and economic activities, which repercussions would be faced by the KE in future. The PPP Karachi Division office-bearers demanded the Pakistan Rangers Sindh Director General and Inspector General of Police Sindh to take action against the owners and operators of illegal water hydrants.

Moreover, a youth, aged about 22-year, was gunned down by unknown armed men near 4-K Chowrangi in Surjani Town. The body was shifted to ASH for an autopsy.

Two men, Nisar Ahmed, 60, son of Fazal, and Sajjad, 38, son of Saleem, were shot and injured by unknown armed men near Muslim Khatri Charitable Hospital in New Karachi. The injured were rushed to ASH for treatment.
