IHCBA denounces 21st Amendment

The Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) has rejected 21st Constitutional Amendment passed by the Parliament with reference to establishment of military courts, saying that government has invited martial law by approving this amendment.

IHCBA President Mohsin Akhtar Kiani said government has undermined fundamental rights of the people by passing the 21st Amendment. The legal fraternity condemns strongly passage of this amendment in parliament, he added.

All the political parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI), which are supporting the amendment, have trampled the fundamental rights of citizens, he alleged. When the results of the amendment come to open, they will “drift the country into chaos”, he added. He held that government has expressed mistrust on the judicial system of the country by passing 21st Amendment.

The consultation process is continuing in the meeting of bar associations for challenging the amendment, he said adding that this amendment can be challenged after consultation with Pakistan Bar Council and Islamabad Bar Council.
