The poor-friendly step by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for providing affordable houses to low income group people has been widely welcomed as more than 60,000 families have applied for allotment of flats under Ashiyana Housing Scheme.
This interest, expressed by the people in this scheme, was also the manifestation of their confidence in the policies of the Punjab government, according to a handout issued on Tuesday.
The scheme was the largest public welfare project in the history of Pakistan as thousands of flats will be constructed for allotment to the shelter-less families in the provinces under this scheme.
An ideally located chunk of 3100 kanal of land, situated in the vicinity of Lahore Airport, DHA, Ring Road and Burki Road, has been allocated for construction of thousand of ground plus three storey flats under Ashiyana Iqbal Project.
The price of these flats will be recovered in easy and interest-free instalments during a long period of 10 years. The Punjab government will pay the interest on behalf of the allottees in order to facilitate the low income group people for becoming owners of their own flats.
Moreover, the amount to be paid by the allotees as monthly instalment will be less than the per month rent of their houses. The Punjab government will construct a 150 feet wide road from Burki Road to the Ashiyana Iqbal Project besides constructing trunk sewer up to Charrer Drain.
All utility services like electricity, water supply, sewage, carpeted roads, schools, parks, commercial area and community centre will be provided for residents of these flats which will make their life easy and comfortable. Flats will be allotted very soon on the basis of merit.
