Security personnel, two militants killed in Balochistan search operation

20 suspected militants arrested in raids across province

Security forces arrested six suspected militants including a key commander in Balochistan’s Chaman town situated at the border Pakistan and Afghanistan on Tuesday.

A security official who requested anonymity said that forces conducted a raid at Rehman Kahol area of Chaman and picked up six militants.

“The militants belong to a banned organisation,” he said, adding that, “Forces recovered arms and ammunition from the possession of arrested militants,” he said.

“At this point in time, we cannot disclose the identity of militants,” he further said.

In another raid, one security personnel was killed and two militants were arrested in Balochistan’s Mastung area on Tuesday.

Security forces faced resistance on the part of armed militants during action in Mastung.

The official said that the arrested terrorists were shifted to Quetta for interrogation, saying that they were involved in acts of kidnappings, targeted killings and other subversive activities.

Security forces also picked up 12 suspects from Kachra Road in Pashtoonabad, Quetta. The suspects are yet to be identified.

The security official stated that the 12 people were picked by forces on suspicion and added that the detained suspects were being interrogated.

Security forces have intensified their actions in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan after the announcement of National Action Plan to combat terrorism in the country.

On Monday, Balochistan Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti chaired a high level meeting in Quetta to ensure implementation of the National Plan in the province.
