Looking for a clean glass of water

The Supreme Court (SC) has sought reply from Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman on a petition filed against supply of contaminated and sewerage mixed water to the citizens.

While presiding over a three-member bench of SC during the course of hearing a petition filed by Saif Ullah Yusuf Monday, Justice Anwar Zahir Jamali remarked, “A long period has elapsed but facility of clean drinking water is not available to the citizens of Islamabad due to which people are suffering from different diseases. CDA should get test water samples and file its report in the court.”

The court has warned if it is proved from water samples that water being supplied is mixed with sewerage then CDA chairman will be summoned and reply will be sought from him directly.

The petitioner had told the court through his petition that residents of Islamabad are being supplied sewerage adulterated water. The citizens are contracting diseases due to contaminated water.

Earlier, SC had taken notice of throwing sewerage water into Rawal Dam but the situation still stands unchanged. Water is becoming polluted due to mixing of water and sewerage lines.

The hearing of the case was adjourned indefinitely.
