Dismisses govt appeal against acquittal of two terror suspects
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday stayed the execution of terrorist Muhammad Faiz convicted in the murder of a Pakistan Army trooper in Nankana Sahib.
The court gave the orders after a lawyer of the Punjab government confirmed that the terrorist’s appeal against the execution was pending before the Supreme Court.
The court observed that as appeal is pending, death warrants of the prisoner could not be issued.
The death warrants for the terrorist were suspended till January 5 while the court also summoned the superintendent of Faisalabad jail.
Earlier, the execution was to be carried out on January 14.
In the meanwhile, the Rawalpindi bench of LHC Friday dismissed the government’s appeal against a court order which acquitted two suspects involved in attacks on Kamra Complex, Hamza Camp and the General Headquarters (GHQ).
The two suspects had reportedly carried out attacks on Kamra Aeronautical Complex and Hamza Camp and attempted a suicide attack on the GHQ which was foiled by security officials.
The court had previously acquitted these suspects due to lack of evidence.
The acquittal was then challenged by the government but the Rawalpindi bench dismissed the government’s plea.
