Interior minister says terrorists with rejected mercy pleas should be executed immediately

Chairing the executive board meeting of National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) at the Prime Minister’s House on Wednesday, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has ordered immediate execution of those death-row terrorists whose mercy pleas have been rejected.

Attended by inspectors general of police of all provinces, home secretaries and representatives of intelligence agencies, the meeting discussed the Anti-Terrorism National Action Plan (ATNAP) and representatives of the provinces were provided the document pertaining to it.

During the meeting, the interior minister said NACTA has been made fully operational and directed all concerned departments for coordinated and prompt intelligence sharing with NACTA to foil terrorist activities across the country. He also assured providing all resources for hurdle-free working of the authority. He also directed collecting data of members of banned organisations.

Last week, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed that NACTA be made functional with immediate effect, following which a meeting was summoned yesterday.

The anti-terror body has largely remained dormant resulting in an absence of coordination among various intelligence and law-enforcement agencies, which is critical to monitoring activities of extremist groups operating in different parts of the country.
