Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced 20 percent increase in salaries of motorway police, adding that construction work on Lahore-Karachi motorway project will also start soon.
He was addressing the annual awards ceremony of national highways and motorways police in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The prime minister said experience of construction of motorway was a successful one and more motorways projects would be started in the country. He said the region would become the centre of economic activities due to Pak-China Economic Corridor project.
He said it was a matter of great pleasure that performance of motorways and highways police was being appreciated on international level. He said many programmes were being implemented from the school level to make the highways safe and to create public awareness in this regard. The PM said he wanted to see motorway police more people friendly. He also lauded the role of police in eliminating terrorism from the country.
The prime minister directed for enhancing efficiency of the organisation and recruitment of staff on need basis in a transparent manner. The prime minister announced 20 percent increase in salaries of motorway police.
Nawaz Sharif also lauded the performance of Inspector General Motorways Police Zulfiqar Cheema.
Zulfiqar Cheema while highlighting the performance of motorway police said the organisation was a role model for other public sector institutions as it had highest traditions of public service. He said performance of the motorway police was also appreciated on international level.
He said the motorway police would provide help to five thousand travellers daily. He said the motorway police was implementing a policy of zero tolerance for corruption and misbehaviour with the travellers. He expressed the determination that motorway police would be made the best police of the world. The prime minister distributed awards to motorway police personnel who showed exemplary performance in discharging their professional duties.
