Opp parties cautioned against anti-democratic forces

The political parties in opposition in Sindh Assembly should be careful of tricks of the elements which have always supported dictatorship in the country and impeded the progress of the democracy, said the PPP senators.

Senator Saeed Ghani, Senator Dr Karim Khawaja and Senator Kulsoom Perveen in a joint statement referring to reports about unification of parties in Sindh Assembly on opposition benches said this could be a measure to topple the democratically elected Sindh government at the behest of some elements from the authoritarian corners.

This, they said, was despite the fact that it was the constitutional right of the masses to elect their representatives, allow them to form the pro-masses democratic government and ensure the rule of the masses through their elected representatives.

The PPP senators said all political parties must realise the sanctity of the ballot and the people’s mandate.

“They should adopt only democratic and constitutional means that may take them to the corridors of powers,” said the PPP senators reiterating that the masses and the PPP would support any step to be taken for strengthening the democracy but would oppose with full force any unconstitutional adventure.

The PPP activists warned that those allegedly conspiring to move a no-confidence motion in the Sindh Assembly through the unconstitutional means need to realise repercussions of the move that may encompass the entire political system at the national level.

They said those believing that the PPP would be in a weaker position should now learn that it was the PPP alone which was well-conversant with the odds and evens of the parliamentary politics.
