A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight crash-landed at Allama Iqbal International airport, Lahore, resulting in the suspension of flight operations for more than 22 hours on Wednesday.
Sources reported that PIA flight PK-758, arriving from London, made an emergency landing at Lahore airport after its landing gear was jammed.
Two tyres of the aircraft were also jammed during the landing. Fortunately, all passengers and crew remained safe during the hard landing. The runway has been closed whereas the plane was removed from the crash site.
The crash landing caused no loss of life; however, it resulted in closure of both runways of the airport and the flight operation was completely suspended and could not be resumed even after 22 hours. A PIA representative said that it was an ‘emergency’ landing caused by landing gear problems. He said all passengers remained safe.
He said the flight operation was affected by dense fog, adding that a special team to clear the runway for traffic has been dispatched from Karachi.
The incident took place as the PIA airliner was forced to land at a smaller runway as the other runways were closed, sources said.
