An Anti-Terrorism Court-I (ATC-I) on Tuesday awarded five-year imprisonment to an extortionist with Rs 50,000 fine.
The ATC-I judge found Jumma Khan guilty of demanding extortion money of Rs 50,000 from hotel owner in Bhittaiabad on 21 September 2013 within the limits of Sachal police station.
The ATC-I pronounced the verdict after recording evidence, statement of witnesses, and hearing arguments from both sides. The ATC-I judge also imposed fine of Rs 50,000 and in case of default, the convict would have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.
According to prosecution, accused demanded extortion money of Rs 50,000 from hotel owner in Bhittaiabad and ransacked the hotel along with his accomplice Murtaza.
The main FIR 506/2013 was lodged against the accused at Sachal police station under Sections 384 (punishment for extortion), 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148(rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
