Sindh High Court Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar said on Tuesday that efforts were well under way to fill all vacant posts of judicial officers across the province and ensure swift dispensation of justice.

Addressing the participants of a ceremony organised by the newly-elected body of the Karachi Bar Association in honour of the high court judges, the CJ assured the lawyers that concrete steps were being taken for dispensation of justice.

He said the phase of promotion of civil judges had completed, while more judges would be promoted and appointed on merit.

CJ Baqar also said that effective measures were also taken for the improvement of infrastructure and security of the city courts building where 80 out of over 300 close-circuit TV cameras had been installed.

He said an anti-terrorism court was also being established on the premises of the central jail for early disposal of the terrorism-related cases. He said the shifting of all courts from the city courts premises to the central jail was also under deliberation.

KBA outgoing president Salahuddin Ahmed, KBA president-elect Naeem Qureshi and President of Sindh High Court Bar Association Abid Zuberi also spoke.

The speakers strongly opposed the proposed establishment of military courts. They said the legal fraternity would never accept the military courts as they were being established in violation of constitutional provisions.

They held that an independent judiciary could only bring justice to people. The KBA also presented shields to the chief justice, senior puisne judge Justice Faisal Arab and office-bearers.
