The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday directed the provincial governments to complete all necessary preparations for holding Local Bodies’ (LB) elections.
The directive was issued at a meeting of the commission held to review matters pertaining to the holding of LB polls in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan presided the meeting.
ECP Acting Secretary Usman Ali informed the meeting that progress has been made in delimitations in Sindh and Punjab. He said a committee has also been constituted to review matters regarding LB polls in Sindh. He said it was not possible to conduct LB polls in KP through the biometric system before September 2015.
Meanwhile in Balochistan, polling for third phase of local bodies’ election will be held for the seats reserved for peasants and labourers on Wednesday.
Provincial Election Commissioner Syed Sultan Bayazid told Radio Pakistan Quetta that 1,482 candidates would contest the election for 613 reserved seats. He said that 338 polling stations have been set up where 338 presiding officers, 338 assistant presiding officers and 338 polling officers will perform their duties. The election commissioner said the polling will begin at 09:00 am and culminate at 03:00 pm.
