Ex-president and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has felicitated Shaharyar Khan and Fazil Jamili on their election as Presidents of National Press Club (NPC) Islamabad and Karachi Press (KPC) respectively.
In his message issued on Monday, Asif Zardari said that Shaharyar’s and Fazil’s election as NPC and KPC Presidents was a demonstration of the trust of the journalist community in their leadership.
He said that the press had played a pivotal role in upholding freedom of expression and expressed the hope that under their leadership the two press clubs will continue to make great strides towards a tolerant and plural press.
Zardari also asked both the Presidents elect to convey his felicitations to other elected officer bearers.

In the meanwhile, Speaker National Assembly (NA) Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi have congratulated the newly elected office bearers of National Press Club (NPC), Islamabad.
In their separate messages to the newly elected President of NPC Mr Sheryar Khan, Secretary General, Mr. Muhammad Tariq Ch, and all other office bearers and members of Governing Body, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker extended their warmest felicitation on their success. They said that their election was an evidence of trust and confidence of journalist fraternity reposed in them.
They hoped that the newly elected body of NPC will work for welfare of journalist community and freedom of press. They were confident that under their energetic and sagacious leadership the problems of journalist’s community would be resolved.
The Speaker and Deputy Speaker said that freedom of expression was essential for strengthening democracy in the country.
