LAHORE–
The Punjab Government on Tuesday announced compensation of Rs 0.5 million for the families of those killed and Rs 0.1 million for injured in fire at a commercial plaza in New Anarkali area of Lahore, private media reported.
The four-storey Al Khalid Plaza in Al Kareem Market area of New Anarkali caught fire on Monday, claiming 13 lives.
Electrical short circuit in the building is said to be the likely cause of fire.
According to the sources of city government, suffocation and burning caused deaths. A woman and a child are also among deceased.
A special committee was formed to investigate the incident after Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif expressed deep sense of grief over the loss of precious human lives.
The committee was directed to submit a report on the incident within 24 hours.
Furthermore,Anarkali Trader Union has announced to keep all markets shut today to lament the tragic incident.
