The Pakistani consulate in Dubai confirmed on Monday that Uzair Baloch, a notorious leader of the Lyari gang war, has been arrested by Interpol at Dubai airport. A team of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will leave for Dubai today (Tuesday) to bring Baloch to Pakistan.
Baloch has been nominated in several extortion and murder cases in Pakistan.
According to details, Baloch was travelling from Muscat to Dubai, when the arrest took place. Baloch was reportedly carrying an Iranian passport. Previously, he was sentenced to imprisonment in Pakistan but was not arrested.
Red warrants were also issued for Baloch through the Interior Ministry, seeking his arrest and extradition to Pakistan. Sources said that the Lyari gang war leader will be extradited to Pakistan within 30 days.
In 2012, a court warranted the arrest of two leaders of the banned People’s Aman Committee, including Baloch and an alleged member of the proscribed Balochistan Liberation Army, in illicit weapons cases.
Baloch had been declared a proclaimed offender in the case and the court had ruled that proceedings against the offender would be conducted in absentia under Section 19 (10) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
