Lahore is known for its elitism, of course. That’s why we have these fancy elite clubs, which are so few because so few qualify for ‘elite’. And one had some interesting guests recently. Another batch of those Turkish police officers is here these days. They come often to train our boys in the Punjab police. But when they would hit the gym in one of those clubs, their rather extensive security detail crowded some of the home-grown elite. Not many liked the idea of a situation that might need such security either. And when they complained in Lahori fashion, the Turks were allotted a fixed time slot, apparently. Funny, how they are friends and trainers and all, but not very tight with the elite.

So Imran’s headed to London again next week. He may not have a flat or bank account there anymore, but it’s still his second home. He has so many friends there, and so many memories. And there’s his children. Jemima may have (finally) tossed ‘Khan’, but the boys adore him. And since it’s not safe for them to be here, he must go there, especially when he has something very important to tell him. Maybe there’s some weight on his shoulders. Maybe he’s taking a big, life-changing decision, and needs to go tell his children before he can tell the world. Maybe.
