The participation of Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Salman Aslam Butt in legal consultations for setting up military courts has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Shahid Orakzai in his petition filed on Friday requested the IHC to enquire from the AGP if he has any orders issued by federal government in respect of constitutional amendments.
The petitioner said that he would withdraw his petition if written orders of federal government are provided in the court otherwise court should declare that Article 57 of the constitution does not allow the AGP to work out a draft of constitutional amendment.
The petitioner has sought a stay order from court lest this “illegal step” on part of the AGP cause any “harm to the constitution”.
The petitioner made it clear to the court that the AGP has not taken oath under the constitution.
Law Secretary Barrister Zafarullah has also been made a respondent in this case.
