New liver transplant facility coming to PIMS soon

A new liver transplant facility will be installed at the cost of Rs 13.5 million in a new building at Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) in the federal capital.

According to details, the PC-1 of installation of new plant project has been sent to the authorities concerned for approval.

The new centre will have a capacity to house 30 patients and will provide the facility of liver transplantation to two patients at a time. The services of foreign doctors will be hired to run the liver transplant centre.

The new project is expected to become functional within two years.

The previous liver transplant facility was closed down after it flopped. At present, liver transplantation is being conducted only in Agha Khan Hospital Karachi.
