- Interior Ministry mulling taking into custody 6,777 terror suspects
At least 75 suspects, including a doctor, were arrested during search operations at medical colleges in Lahore and Peshawar on Friday.
An intelligence agency detained five suspected persons, including a doctor, during a search operation at a medical college in Lahore. According to sources, the search operation was conducted by the intelligence agency in different medical colleges.
Sources said that all those arrested belonged to an outlawed organisation, whereas the doctor worked as a facilitator for the banned organisation and played a pivotal role in strengthening the network of the terrorists.
In a search operation in Peshawar’s Qazi Killey and adjoining areas, police rounded up more than 70 suspects, including some Afghan nationals. The police also seized a huge cache of weapons from the suspects’ possession.
Pictures of the family members of those detained were taken, and other relevant data was collected during the search drive.
INTERIOR MINISTRY MULLING ACTION:
Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry has planned to take as many as 6,777 suspects into protective confinement across the country.
The ministry has issued arrest warrants for all suspects and it is likely that they will all be arrested in the coming 48 hours.
Most of the suspects belong to banned outfits. According to details, out of the 6,777 suspects, around 1,416 are residents of Punjab, 4,000 are from KP, 1,000 from Sindh, 338 from Baluchistan and 23 from Islamabad.
