While addressing a candle light vigil ceremony at National Broadcasting House on Thursday evening, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid has said that no armed group would be allowed to dictate its agenda and disturb the peace of the country.
The vigil was held to honour the memory of those that lost their lives in the attack on Peshawar Army Public School.
The minister that said it was because of the immense sacrifices made by the children in Peshawar that the country stands united against terrorism. Rashid believes that the recent consensus reached by parliamentary leaders would lead the country “from darkness to the light”. He said the nation has also resolved that it would not allow any further formation of armed and militants groups whose main aim is to dictate the nation’s on its way of life.
Weapons are a huge responsibility and only institutions authorised by the constitution have the right and responsibility to possess the gun, and use it to defend the country and its people. “No other group or militant organisation can be given this right,” he asserted.
“By remembering tragedies like Peshawar, we can learn from the mistakes of the past and reflect how to prevent them in future. It is time for us for self-accountability as to where and why we erred,” he said.
