With Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressing his resolve to spearhead the campaign against terrorism, a high level meeting on Tuesday decided to immediately implement the Anti-Terrorism National Action Plan (ATNAP) for effectively eradicating terrorism from the country.
“I will lead this war against terror for my people and my country and will take it to its logical end come what may. Terrorism cannot be tolerated anymore. Terrorist networks will be routed from every corner of the country. Every citizen of the country, irrespective of his caste, sect or faith would be protected. No cause is holier than protecting the life and property of every citizen of Pakistan,” the premier said while chairing the meeting held at Prime Minister’s House on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General (DG) Rizwan Akhtar, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) DG Asim Bajwa, the Military Operations (MO) director general and Military Intelligence (MI) DG.
Apart from the progress of Operation Zarb-e-Azb, strategy to eliminate terrorism from all parts of the country and quick and effective implementation of ATNAP was discussed in the meeting. Various short-term and medium-term steps required to be taken for eliminating terror networks also came under discussion.
Addressing the meeting, PM Sharif said that there was no difference between terrorists and their abettors and stressed the need to eliminate the mindset associated with terrorism and militancy.
“Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. We cannot forget and forgive atrocities committed by barbarians in Peshawar, Quetta and Wahga,” Sharif said, adding that there will be no discrimination in the war against terrorism.
It was agreed in the meeting that Operation Zarb-e-Azb would continue till the elimination of the last terrorist.
The prime minister, who cancelled all his engagements for Tuesday to discuss the security matters in an earlier meeting with his cabinet and legal team, said that people could not be left at the mercy of terrorists.

Meanwhile, the prime minister has summoned a meeting of the parliamentary leaders on Wednesday (today) at 11am to finalise ATNAP.
According to a Prime Minister’s House official, the meeting will deliberate on the suggestions put forward by the ATNAP committee and working group for an effective course of action against terrorism.

I am older than both of these Sharifs, I have heard many beautiful promises, and resolutions; never to be fulfilled. I am waiting for another shoe to drop (how I wish, I am wrong this time, for once). Lot of luck Pakistanis.
