British company interested in establishing power plant

Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) President Zakaria Usman said there was huge potential of Pakistani products in UK and the current statistics of bilateral trade were not reflecting true picture of this potential.

He was meeting the British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi Jhon Anthony Tucknott who visited FPCCI head office, Karachi. The meeting was also attended by Shaukat Ahmed, Sr Vice President, Ismail Suttar, Khurram Sayeed, Vice Presidents of FPCCI, Ishtiaq Baig, Sheikh Javed Ilyas.

Usman further said the annual trade potential was US $3 between the two countries. “Despite the fact that our industries are facing energy crises, he expressed his hope that the problem of shortage of energy would be resolved soon.”

The Deputy High Commissioner of United Kingdom said that prosperity of Pakistan with strengthening commercial trade and economic activities between the Pakistan and UK was the priority.

He added that many British companies were willing to do business in Pakistan and wanted to undertake joint ventures with Pakistani counterparts, particularly in gas and power generation and waste power plants.

He further said that many British companies were successfully running their business in Pakistan. Similarly, other British companies could also have successful business in Pakistan. He also informed that they were planning to hold a seminar to introduce financial services products in UK market for which Pakistani financial companies had been invited to attend which was a big opportunity for them.

Anthony informed that a British company was interested in setting up project of desalination plant would be capable of providing millions gallons of potable water per day. He also informed that a well experienced British company was also interested in setting up project for power generation through solid waste in Pakistan which would not only help in fulfilling the energy requirements but would also lead to useful disposal of a large quantity of garbage.

Senior Vice President FPCCI Shaukat Ahmed emphasized on the sharing of trade related information between FPCCI and British High Commission.

Deputy High Commissioner appreciated the suggestion of the Vice President FPCCI Khurram Sayeed regarding holding Made in Pakistan Exhibition in UK and said that the British High Commission would provide all possible assistance and cooperation to FPCCI for holding successful exhibition in UK.
