At least 13 terrorists belonging to al Qaeda and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed and one was arrested in a shootout in Karachi’s Al-Asif Square area on Monday.

SSP Malir Rao Anwar said that the clash took place when terrorists hurled a hand grenade at a security forces’ vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire. Heavy contingent of police was summoned for backup and an encounter began with the assailants resulting in the killing of 13 terrorists and arrest of one man.

Anwar claimed that four of those killed were affiliated with al Qaeda while the other men were members of the TTP. He said that the al Qaeda terrorists were wearing police uniforms.

Anwar said that suicide jackets, bags filled with explosives and modern weapons were recovered from the possession of the killed terrorists. He said that the accused were in search of high profile targets but timely action of security personnel foiled their plans.
