Street crime on rise in G-9 Markaz

The residents of Islamabad’s G-9 Markaz have expressed grave concern over the growing incidents of pick-pocketing, purse snatching and other street crimes in Karachi Company Market due to lack of security arrangements.

“Inside the market, security arrangements are next to nil and the consumers are looted and robbed in broad day light at gunpoint,” said Ghulam Asghar, who frequents the market.

“The market plunges into darkness in the early evening as it has no street light arrangement,” he added.

“These thieves snatch purses from us besides hurling abusive remarks at us when they see us entering the market,” said Uzma Gil, a lady teacher.

“We are working women and only find time to go out for necessary shopping in the evening. But these eve-teasers surround us and tease us,” said Zulaikha, a government employee who visits the market on regular basis.

The residents of the area particularly females have demanded of the government to take measures for tightening security in the market.
