Major power breakdown in Karachi, resumption underway

KARACHI-

A major power breakdown plunged over 80 percent areas of Karachi into dark on early morning Sunday, private media reported.

Power was out in Defence, Sharae Faisal, Nazimabad, Clifton, Landhi, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Nursery, PECHS, Shah Faisal, New Karachi,  and other areas.

The electricity supply could not be restored till 10am, seven hours after the breakdown.

According to a K-Electric spokesman,  the main transmission line of National Transmission and Distribution Company (NTDC) tripped due to a technical glitch that led to suspension of electricity.

A timeframe for the restoration of the power supply was not given by K-Electric, however, the spokesman  said that repair work is going on.

Power failure was also reported in various cities of Sindh, including Hyderabad and Jamshoro, apparently due to tripping of the NTDC links.

The NTDC fault also triggered power disruption in Balochistan cities including Quetta, Nasirabad, Jafarabad, Jhal Magsi, Sohbat Pur.
