Capital cops seek enhanced police-citizen cooperation

Notables of society to be roped in to help police’s efforts to protect human rights and solve public problems, says Islamabad SSP

Islamabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asmatullah Junejo has said that notables of the society will be included in the efforts to protect human rights and to solve public problems on priority basis.

He was addressing members of Citizen Police Coordination Committees (CPCC) working in various police stations of Islamabad.

Saddar SP Muhammad Ilyas, City SP Rizwan Umar Gondal, Industrial Area SP Liaqat Hayat Niazi and other police officials were also present.

In the beginning of the meeting, the participants prayed for the innocent school children and others who lost their lives in the Peshawar incident.

On the special directions of Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Islamabad SSP conducted a meeting with the CPCC members. The SSP said Islamabad police has taken special measures to ensure community policing so that disputes of minor nature could be reconciled among the parties without any political interference if any.

The SSP Islamabad said the basic purpose of police is to serve the public and address their complaints on immediate basis, adding that no stone will be left unturned in this regard.

He further said that police and public cooperation should be enhanced in order to strengthen trust-building measures.

The concept of friendly police is being promoted and creation of friendly atmosphere is being ensured at all police stations, said Junejo.

The SSP urged representatives of the committee to work honestly and with devotion in order to solve the problems of general public. He said there should be no gap between police and public and crime control measures should be made more effective with mutual cooperation.

The SSP said these centers would have priority areas including resolving community problems on immediate basis, inculcating friendly police ecology with polite and decent attitude, providing enhanced security atmosphere, provision of better working environment and end to indecent practices in police stations.

On the occasion, coordinators and members of all CCPCs assured full cooperation with the police. The SSP listened to the problems of CPCC members and assured to solve them for effective policing.
